  • Our approach

At MindBox Psychology, evidence-based treatment is delivered using approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based techniques. Sessions involve more than just talking about problems—they include actively discussing and understanding the causes of issues, then learning practical skills to address or manage them. The primary therapy technique is CBT, though other therapies may be used if research shows they are more suitable for your child's condition. The focus is on helping identify factors contributing to or exacerbating the problem and setting clear goals for change, with psychologists taking a collaborative approach tailored to individual needs.

  • Working with families

MindBox Psychology offers a dedicated parenting program called Tuning in to Kids™, a six-week online parenting group that teaches practical, evidence-based emotion coaching strategies to help children develop emotional intelligence, improve behaviour, and strengthen family relationships. The intake survey also includes questions about parent support and guidance, indicating family involvement is considered part of the treatment approach. The provider recognises the importance of working with parents and carers to support children's mental health and offers both direct support and family-focused interventions.

  • Meet the team

The clinical psychology team at MindBox Psychology comprises fully qualified Clinical Psychologists and Psychologists, all registered with AHPRA and Medicare, and holding Masters Degrees in Clinical Psychology. The team is led by Dr Elizabeth Woodcock (Director and Clinical Psychologist), and includes specialists such as Dr Macy Chan (fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese), and others with experience across different age groups and presentations. The team has over 15 years of experience serving the community, with psychologists well-equipped to work with children, adolescents, and adults across a wide range of psychological conditions.

  • Your first visit

During the initial appointment, your psychologist will take time to get to know you and develop a thorough understanding of the issues your child is experiencing. The first appointment is usually longer than a standard session, lasting about an hour. Your therapist will ask more questions than usual and may take notes as you talk, aiming to identify the factors contributing to or exacerbating the problem and setting clear goals for change. This comprehensive initial assessment helps establish a personalised treatment plan that best supports your child's mental well-being.
