  • Our approach

Beam Health's therapists work with children using evidence-based, individualised approaches tailored to each child's strengths, weaknesses and learning style. Sessions are conducted in a safe, fun and creative space designed to promote child engagement, with therapists first conducting a comprehensive assessment to understand the nature of difficulties before developing a personalised plan. Parents and caregivers receive additional strategies to support skill-building outside of sessions, and therapists collaborate with relevant health and education professionals as needed. The overall goal is to help children build skills, increase independence, and enhance their quality of life through meaningful activities.

  • Working with families

Parents and caregivers are actively involved throughout therapy. They receive additional strategies to enhance child skill-building outside of sessions and gain support in overcoming challenges in the home or other settings. Therapists communicate with and collaborate with families as part of developing the individualised plan, and they further liaise with relevant health and education professionals where needed to support each child's progress.

  • Meet the team

Beam Health's Tuggerah team includes registered psychologists (Alexandra, Alice, Cassandra, Ian, Shay), a clinical psychologist (Shahna), a counselling psychologist (Marko), speech pathologists (Sarah), occupational therapists (Abi, Phumudzo), and behaviour support practitioners. The team is led by discipline managers including Kathleen (Educational and Developmental Psychologist), Delna (Speech Pathologist) and Maree (Occupational Therapist) who oversee all clinics. Team members are registered or credentialled professionals with experience in evidence-based therapy across psychology, speech pathology, and occupational therapy, working collaboratively to support children, teens and families.

  • Your first visit

At a first appointment, the therapist will conduct a comprehensive initial assessment to understand your child's difficulties and determine whether they relate to motor, sensory processing, learning, social, or emotional and behavioural factors. The clinician gathers information about how your child's functioning is affected, identifying their strengths, weaknesses and learning style. This assessment takes place in the clinic and includes an initial 50-minute face-to-face session plus 20 minutes of non-face-to-face time for the clinician to prepare, review intake information and develop a personalised plan. Based on this assessment, the therapist will work with you and your child to set agreed goals and develop an individualised treatment plan.
