• Our approach

  OT is delivered as functional, fun therapy that fits into family life and the community. Sessions are evidence-based and support children at home, at childcare/school and in their local area. The service works with other therapists as part of a coordinated team approach, and helps children access social and learning opportunities that matter to them. Specific services include bimanual therapy, modified CIMT, fine motor skill building, self-care skill development, social and play skills, community access training, and equipment prescription tailored to each child's needs.

• Working with families

  Family involvement is central to the service philosophy. Parents and carers are asked to share their child's goals and what they want to work on in OT, and therapy is designed to support the whole family's life—at home, school and in the community. The therapist works collaboratively with families and other professionals as part of a coordinated team approach. An enquiry form is used to discuss each child's specific OT needs before therapy begins.

• Meet the team

  The service is led by Bronwyn Northcott, a paediatric occupational therapist with 8 years of experience working with children with predominantly neurological conditions. She has worked as a Key Worker in non-for-profit organisations, as an OT in mainstream schools and as a Teaching Associate at Monash University, and spent 4 years in the Victorian Paediatric Rehab Service and an infant assessment clinic. She has specialist training in modified CIMT, bimanual therapy, Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination, play therapy, equipment prescription, home modifications, and trauma informed care.

• Your first visit

  Initial appointments are allocated 90 minutes to get to know your child, understand their goals and learn about your family's needs. This extended time allows the therapist to build rapport with your child and gather the information needed to plan meaningful, individualised therapy. You'll have the opportunity to discuss what matters most to your family and what you'd like your child to work towards in therapy. Travel costs are charged in addition to the hourly rate of $193.99, though efforts are made to group clients in similar areas so costs can be shared.
