  • Our approach

WestHealth Psychology prioritises creating a strong foundation of trust, respect, and collaboration with every client. The practice uses research-based, evidence-informed approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, and other tailored methods depending on your child's unique needs. Sessions run for 50 minutes and are personalised to your child's circumstances and goals. The therapeutic relationship is considered the most significant factor in successful outcomes, and the team works to build healthy coping strategies, foster emotional awareness, and support wellbeing in everyday life.

  • Working with families

WestHealth believes in a family-centred approach and involves parents and carers as key partners in their child's care. The practice offers parent coaching, parent training, and joint parent-child therapy sessions. Practitioners work collaboratively with families and value open communication; parents are provided with practical strategies to support their child's growth and development. The team recognises that family involvement is vital in fostering resilience and supporting positive outcomes.

  • Meet the team

WestHealth Psychology has a multidisciplinary team of over 15 qualified clinical psychologists, psychologists, psychotherapists, and specialist practitioners. The team is led by Dr Carol Smith, the founder and director, who is a Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years of clinical expertise and a PhD specialising in childhood eating disorders. The team includes Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists with advanced training and experience working with young people and their families. All practitioners are experienced, qualified professionals committed to delivering evidence-based, compassionate care tailored to individual needs.

  • Your first visit

At the first appointment, your child will meet with a therapist matched to their specific needs and circumstances. The appointment involves an initial consultation and assessment where the therapist learns about your child's concerns and goals. Following this, a personalised treatment plan is created collaboratively, with clear goals and a schedule for future sessions tailored to your child's availability and needs. The team works to ensure your child feels safe and understood during this process.
