Our approach
The Quirky Kid Clinic takes a child-centred, playful approach to understanding and supporting each child's unique needs. Sessions are designed to be engaging and practical, using evidence-based therapies delivered in welcoming, fun clinic spaces that feel nothing like a traditional medical centre. The team works from the child's perspective, drawing on creative, award-winning tools tailored to help children build resilience and create positive change. All psychologists receive significant ongoing supervision and professional development, ensuring families benefit from the latest research and therapeutic techniques. This approach empowers both children and parents with the social and emotional tools they need to thrive.
Working with families
The Quirky Kid Clinic recognises parents as essential partners in their child's wellbeing and provides multiple ways to stay involved. Initial consultations include dedicated time with parents to understand the child's background and needs, and the team maintains regular communication throughout therapy to track progress and adapt the plan. The clinic offers workshops specifically for parents, such as "Navigating Meltdowns with Confidence," designed to equip parents with practical strategies and deeper understanding of their child's emotional development. Parents can also access evidence-based resources, guides and tools curated by the psychology team to support their child at home and reinforce progress made in sessions.
Meet the team
The team is led by Dr Kimberley O'Brien, Principal Child Psychologist and co-founder, who brings 20 years of experience and expertise in child development and mental health, including a PhD on belonging and socioemotional wellbeing. Bridget Tegg is a Registered Psychologist and Board Approved Supervisor with over six years' experience in evidence-based therapy and diagnostic assessments, serving as Clinical Lead at the Woollahra clinic. Grace Wilcock is a Registered Psychologist offering a warm, strengths-based approach to supporting children, adolescents and families. All staff are permanently employed, receive significant supervision and support, and maintain high standards through ongoing professional development with the latest research and techniques.
Your first visit
The first appointment follows a structured four-step process beginning with an initial parent consultation, where the team gathers important background information. This is followed by a child consultation to understand the child's perspective and build rapport in a relaxed setting. After these consultations, the team develops a personalised assessment or therapy plan tailored to the child's specific needs and goals. Ongoing support and therapy then continues as agreed, with the team maintaining regular communication to track progress and adjust the plan as needed. Throughout this process, you'll be working with registered psychologists experienced in assessment and therapy with children.
