  • Our approach

The Balmain Practice takes a warm, friendly and collaborative approach to therapy, providing a safe and relaxed environment for children and adolescents to reach their therapeutic goals. Sessions are conducted face-to-face at the Balmain clinic, via telehealth online, or a combination of both. The team uses a wide variety of evidence-based and contemporary treatment modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Family Based Treatments. Psychologists work with young people to address concerns such as anxiety, depression, school stress, self-esteem issues, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, sleep disorders and eating disorders. The practice abides by the ethics of the Australian Psychological Society and prioritises creating an environment where children and adolescents feel heard, understood and respected.

  • Your first visit

Your first appointment begins when you contact the practice by phone or online form to book an initial session. A Welcome Pack is sent with important information about what to expect and how to prepare. On arrival for either face-to-face or online appointments, allow time to gather your thoughts, have a cup of tea or coffee, and take some deep breaths to relax before the session. During the first appointment, your child will raise their concerns or issues and express what they're hoping to achieve from therapy. It's also a time for your child and the psychologist to start to get to know each other and establish open rapport, with the psychologist setting up further appointments to work towards therapeutic goals.
