Our approach
Q Psychology works within a person-centred approach and LGBTQIA-affirming and neuroaffirming frameworks to provide high-quality, compassionate mental health support. The clinic offers best-practice, evidence-based therapy and assessment services tailored to meet individual needs. Many of their psychologists bring lived experience alongside their clinical expertise. Sessions are delivered both in-person and via telehealth, with flexible appointment times available Monday to Saturday, including evening appointments. The approach emphasises respect, inclusivity, and accessibility of mental healthcare for all.
Working with families
Q Psychology actively involves parents and carers in their child's care. For children under 18, parents or guardians are interviewed as part of the initial assessment to gather important information about the young person. Parents can attend sessions with their child if preferred, particularly if the child requests this or experiences distress when separated. The clinic collects collateral information from parents, teachers, and other important people in the child's life to inform assessments and treatment. Recommendations from assessments and therapy are designed to be shared with caregivers, teachers, and other supports to ensure coordinated care for the child.
Meet the team
The Carlton clinic has a diverse team of qualified psychologists, clinical psychologists, counsellors, and a mental health accredited social worker. Senior psychologists include Holly Pretorius, Owen O'Neill, and Carina Allen, among others. Many team members have specialised training in areas including autism and ADHD assessments, relationship counselling, and cognitive assessments. The team is committed to providing high-quality care within affirming and evidence-based frameworks, with many clinicians bringing lived experience alongside their clinical qualifications. A certified therapy dog, Cashew, also practices alongside clinician Holly Pretorius.
