  • Our approach

Kids & Co takes a family-centred approach to psychology, believing that children and young people can make meaningful change to fulfil their potential and grow into healthy adults. The team uses a range of evidence-based therapeutic methods including cognitive behavioural therapy, family therapy, play therapy, narrative therapy, and others, tailored to each child's needs. Sessions combine verbal counselling with child-friendly strategies such as games, art, symbols, and sand to help children communicate and feel at ease. A personalised treatment plan is developed collaboratively with families to ensure the most effective intervention for your particular situation. The team values your views and works closely with you to create effective and efficient change.

  • Working with families

The team takes a collaborative approach and aims to keep parents informed of the work their children are doing in therapy and updated on progress. When working with young people receiving individual therapy, confidentiality is respected; however, if there are things that would be helpful for parents to know to change a problematic situation, the psychologist will discuss with the child how to share this information. The service values your views and works closely with you throughout treatment to ensure effective change. Regular communication helps ensure parents and carers understand their child's therapeutic work and feel involved in the process.

  • Meet the team

The team includes clinical psychologists and psychologists with extensive training and experience in child and adolescent mental health, child protection, and working with families. All clinicians are nationally registered psychologists, with clinical psychologists holding advanced Masters or Doctorate qualifications. The team has special interests and expertise in different areas, allowing them to match your child's needs with the most suitable clinician. The service was founded by Dr Anna Cohen and Amanda Frawley in 2000 and is well respected by general practitioners, psychiatrists, and other reputable organisations across Australia.

  • Your first visit

Your initial appointment gives you the opportunity to meet your psychologist and share your child's background, developmental history, and your concerns. You can choose whether your child attends this first session with you, or request a parent-only appointment if you have a preference. Following the first session, your psychologist will develop a treatment plan to help you achieve your goals. The service typically recommends starting with a series of 6 appointments, spaced at weekly or fortnightly intervals, though the number of sessions required varies for each family.
