Our approach

At ADHD Therapy Australia, the approach is neurodivergent-affirming and evidence-based, recognising that people with ADHD need support that specifically understands their condition. Sessions focus on learning how ADHD works in your child's life and finding practical accommodations to manage symptoms more effectively. The team—psychologists, clinical psychologists, and occupational therapists—help both the person with ADHD and family members understand the condition and its impacts. Support extends to strengthening mental health and addressing secondary effects of ADHD. The online format makes therapy accessible and convenient while maintaining therapeutic quality.

Working with families

The provider explicitly helps family members and loved ones understand ADHD and respond more effectively to it. Support for families is woven throughout the services, with resources like training for parents of young people with ADHD and the Beyond Distracted Post-Diagnosis Guide designed to help parents who have recently had a child diagnosed. The initial assessment feedback session includes time for questions and discussion about next steps, ensuring parents are informed and involved in planning. The philosophy centres on accessible, supportive communication that helps families feel genuinely supported rather than blamed.

Meet the team

The team consists of Anthony Brown and Meagan Cooke, psychologists and directors of ADHD Therapy Australia, both with professional expertise and lived experience of ADHD. The clinical team includes psychologists, clinical psychologists, and occupational therapists who provide neurodivergent-affirming support. All assessment staff have experience, supervision, and training specifically in assessing ADHD. The directors are passionate about providing accessible, neuroaffirming support and co-host the Beyond Distracted podcast, sharing insights from their personal and professional experience with ADHD.

Your first visit

The initial assessment is designed to be thorough and supportive, exploring your child's behaviour and helping you understand how their brain works in a more compassionate way. The psychologists, who have specific experience and training in assessing ADHD, guide the process to make it as accessible as possible. Following the assessment, you receive feedback on the results with time for questions, and clear next steps for treatment and support are discussed. This means that regardless of the outcome, you'll have a concrete plan moving forward. The assessment includes a comprehensive report that can be shared with a psychiatrist for your next visit.
