  • Our approach

Evidence-based child therapy at the practice uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help children understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, while building a practical toolbox of coping strategies and resilience. Theraplay principles are also integrated into sessions—a playful, attachment-based approach that strengthens the emotional bond between child and caregivers through structured, interactive activities. Sessions focus on reducing anxiety and low mood while enhancing attunement, connection, and emotional regulation in a warm, child-centred environment. The philosophy centres on children, parents, and psychologists working together as partners, with the goal of empowering families with lasting understanding and confidence rather than creating reliance on therapy.

  • Working with families

Parents are central to the therapeutic process and begin with their own initial consultation to share information openly and establish goals. The practice uses a collaborative, partnership model where parents, children, and psychologists work together, with the aim of equipping parents with practical skills and lasting confidence to support their child throughout life. Family dynamics are considered throughout assessment and intervention planning, and the practice offers dedicated parent coaching and support sessions using behaviour-attachment-based principles to strengthen parent-child relationships. Regular communication and involvement ensure families leave not only with greater understanding but with the confidence and connection needed to navigate future challenges independently.

  • Your first visit

Your first appointment begins with a parent-only initial consultation via Telehealth, giving you space to speak openly while your psychologist gathers information to tailor support from the start. During the first hour, the psychologist builds a clear picture of your child by asking about their interests, strengths, personality, hobbies, family support network, school, current concerns, and any past assessments or supports. In the final 30 minutes, you'll work together on goal setting and mapping out next steps, including planning for your child's first session, discussing the most suitable format (individual child sessions, parent sessions, or assessment), and what to expect moving forward. You'll leave with a clear, practical plan for the next stage of support.
