Our approach
Holistic Occupational Therapy takes a whole-person approach that goes beyond addressing isolated symptoms, instead considering your child's life roles, strengths, goals, and sense of identity. Sessions are tailored to your child's unique needs and delivered in a comfortable setting—whether that's your home, school, or community—so therapy fits seamlessly into daily routines. The service emphasises moving at your child's pace and fostering engagement in meaningful activities that bring purpose, enjoyment, and satisfaction. Therapy is based on the latest research and evidence, with a focus on building confidence, resilience, and connected lives for children learning to play, grow, and develop independence.
Working with families
The service works collaboratively with families as part of the therapy team, recognising that you are integral to your child's success. The therapist works closely with your child, family, and school to help develop the skills your child needs to live confident, resilient, and connected lives. The practice also collaborates with other health professionals and supports in your child's life to ensure a comprehensive and holistic approach. Communication happens from the initial consultation onwards, with the team committed to supporting you every step of the journey.
Meet the team
The practice is led by Alex Thompson, an experienced Occupational Therapist based in the Margaret River region. Alex brings 11 years of post-qualification experience working across the lifespan, including 6 years working closely with children and families, 3 years supporting older adults, and 2 years with teenagers and adults with various needs. Prior to becoming an occupational therapist, Alex worked as a support worker for 10 years and recently completed work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the East Kimberley supporting children with developmental delays. Alex is passionate about supporting clients to advocate for themselves and build lives rich in meaning and purpose.
Your first visit
To begin, you'll complete an online referral form with information about your child's strengths, interests, current functional challenges, and any identified needs or diagnoses. After your enquiry is received, the therapist will contact you to have a chat about your goals and what you're hoping to achieve. This initial conversation helps ensure the service is the right fit for your family. Availability is subject to the therapist's current capacity, and the team will do their best to accommodate appointments that work for you.
