Our approach
Down South Therapy provides individualised, research-based therapy using a functional, fun approach tailored to each person's strengths, needs, and goals. Sessions are predominantly individual but can also be paired or group depending on your preference. The practice is family-centred, meaning strategies recommended during therapy are designed to be used in everyday life to help you achieve your goals. Therapists work across multiple environments—home, school, daycare, or community venues—so they can see exactly where you need to perform and make recommendations practical for daily living. Your therapist will collaborate with teachers, health professionals, and other care workers to support your progress.
Working with families
The practice is family-centred and collaborates with parents, carers, teachers, and other professionals involved in your child's care. Tailored evidence-based exercises, strategies, and equipment prescriptions are provided so improvements continue between sessions with family involvement. The website mentions working closely with families to create the best outcomes, and therapists are able to provide education and information sessions for parents, siblings, and families to support generalisation of skills into everyday life.
Meet the team
The team includes four experienced Operations Managers overseeing clinical areas: Jill (Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Physiotherapy, with extensive adult and growing paediatric experience plus university lecturing background); Stacey (Speech Pathology, BA Honours, 16+ years' experience across hospital, private, and school settings with paediatric focus and training in Hanen and Sounds Write programs); Caila (Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Science, 17+ years' experience in mental health, aged care, hospital, and private practice with specialities in home modifications and assistive technology); and Adam (Occupational Therapy, South West region, BSc, experienced with school-aged children and families). Leadership includes Founding Director Jodie Watts (Occupational Therapist since 2011) and Managing Director Erika Watts. The practice employs over 70 dedicated allied health staff.
Your first visit
At your initial assessment, you'll have an in-depth discussion about your strengths, needs, and goals, including areas you'd like to improve. A comprehensive assessment tailored to you will be completed, followed by an easy-to-read report explaining your strengths and areas for development. Based on the assessment results, your therapist will create an individualised treatment program and discuss an estimated timeline to achieve your goals in the most efficient and effective way possible. This all happens in a comfortable, familiar space since sessions are delivered at your home, school, or preferred location.
