About Balanced Kids Psychology
Balanced Kids Psychology offers assessment, therapy, and carer support for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age on the NSW Central Coast. Every child's journey is different, and the practice provides services designed to nurture emotional well-being and resilience, with all therapeutic intervention using a neuroaffirming approach that seeks to educate and empower children and their carers.
Structured evaluations of attention, learning, and thinking skills (ADHD, cognitive, and educational assessments), as well as autism assessments that analyse communication, social interaction, behaviour, and developmental history.
Child Therapy
Therapy tailored to the developmental and emotional needs of children and teenagers, addressing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, identity, social difficulties and school-related stress. Therapists use age-appropriate approaches that engage young people on their own terms.
Carer Support
Guidance, education, and practical strategies to help carers understand and respond to the child's emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs, including behaviour management and communication techniques.

Our approach
Therapy uses a neuroaffirming approach with methods including play therapy, cognitive–behavioural strategies, and emotional regulation skill-building to help children manage emotions, behaviours, and experiences in a safe, nurturing environment. The psychologist draws on Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and play therapy with a holistic, client-led approach. Sessions are tailored to suit the diverse needs of children and their families, creating space for them to feel heard and safe during both therapeutic intervention and assessment. The practice aims to educate and empower children and their carers through evidence-based interventions.
Working with families
Parents and carers are actively involved throughout the therapeutic process and assessment. They are invited to participate in the initial consultation to share their concerns and their child's history, and carer support is offered separately, including guidance, education, and practical strategies to help them better understand and respond to their child's needs. The practice provides insight into the child's strengths and challenges, teaches effective behaviour management and communication techniques, and helps carers create supportive routines at home. All therapeutic intervention seeks to educate and empower both children and their carers.
Meet the team
The practice is owned and run by Emilie Lemasson, a registered psychologist (PSY0002631532) with qualifications including BPsych, Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Advanced), and a Bachelor of Music. She brings over 25 years of experience working with young people, having previously worked as a trauma specialist and in disability support before retraining as a child psychologist ten years ago. Emilie has experience delivering therapy to children with autism, ADHD, ODD, PTSD, depression and anxiety, and is passionate about improving the wellbeing of children and their families through clinical knowledge and a genuine sense of care.
Your first visit
The initial consultation is a face-to-face or telehealth session lasting up to 90 minutes, during which parents outline their child's developmental history, behaviours, and any current difficulties. This gives the psychologist an opportunity to listen to parental concerns and build a meaningful understanding of the family situation. The information gathered helps guide the development of a personalised assessment and/or intervention plan tailored to the child's specific needs. Parents are invited to actively participate in this discussion, ensuring their insights inform the direction of support.
