  • Our approach

At Word Wizard, therapy sessions are built on evidence-based, creative, and playful strategies designed to make learning fun and motivating. The Speech Pathologist works with your child using engaging activities while also supporting you as a parent—each session includes feedback, modelling of strategies, and time to discuss home practice tasks. Sessions are tailored to your child's individual needs and can be arranged in flexible formats, such as 30-60 minutes of direct intervention combined with parent education and coaching. The approach is neuro-affirming and holistic, focusing on building confidence and effective communication across home, school, and community settings. Sessions may feel so engaging that children sometimes ask when the 'work' is going to begin!

  • Working with families

Parent and carer involvement is central to Word Wizard's approach—outcomes are best achieved through collaboration. During each session, the Speech Pathologist provides feedback, models strategies for you to use, and welcomes your questions at any point. You'll learn practical strategies tailored to your child's needs that you can implement at home, and these skills become lifelong tools for both you and your child. If you're unable to attend sessions, detailed session notes are provided to keep you informed. The Speech Pathologist also works directly with your child's educators and school to ensure consistent support across all settings.

  • Your first visit

Your first appointment begins with a play-based dynamic assessment, which allows the Speech Pathologist to observe your child in a natural, relaxed way and gather information about their communication and literacy skills. This observational approach helps determine whether formal intervention is needed and what your child's goals should be. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns about your child's development. The assessment is designed to be low-pressure and enjoyable for your child, giving you a clear sense of whether support is warranted and what the next steps might look like.
