  • Our approach

At Willow Child Psychology, every child is recognised as unique and receives individualised support tailored to their specific needs. Sessions use a client-centred, strengths-based approach that incorporates play, movement, games and activities to help children better understand their challenges and work towards positive change. The clinic aims to build trusting relationships and creates a safe, engaging therapeutic environment. This multi-sensory approach to therapy helps children develop positive coping strategies and improve their emotional wellbeing, with the whole family and support network involved collaboratively throughout the process.

  • Working with families

The clinic values working collaboratively with parents, carers and other people in the child's support network to help them understand their child's needs and how best to support them at home. Parenting support is offered as part of the service, which can include help managing challenging behaviour, developing routines and boundaries, communicating effectively with their child, and managing expectations. Parents are actively involved in the initial intake session and ongoing goal-setting, recognising that children often need adult support to identify emotions and implement strategies independently.

  • Your first visit

The first step is an intake session attended by parent(s) or carer(s) without the child present. During this important initial meeting, you'll discuss your child's current challenges and needs with the psychologist and work together to develop therapeutic goals. This session allows the clinician to understand your family's situation and establish a collaborative plan for support. Following this intake, ongoing appointments are scheduled for your child to attend individual therapy sessions.
