  • Our approach

At Upward Psychology, therapy draws on evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), tailored to each young person's unique needs and developmental stage. Sessions prioritise creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where young people feel understood and supported to explore their experiences and build resilience. The team emphasises fostering personal growth by equipping young people with practical tools and strategies to navigate life's challenges. Interventions are designed collaboratively, taking a strength-based approach that works with individual abilities and values. Prevention and early intervention are central to the practice philosophy, ensuring concerns are addressed promptly and effectively before they escalate.

  • Working with families

Open communication with families is central to the practice, with the team encouraging parents and carers to play an active role in their child's development and therapy. The team educates and empowers parents through collaboration, keeping them informed and involved in designing and implementing treatment plans that support the young person's growth. By working closely with families alongside teachers and coaches, the service takes a holistic approach to addressing mental, emotional, social, and behavioural health. This collaborative partnership ensures that parents understand their child's needs and can reinforce therapeutic strategies at home, promoting consistent support and lasting change.
