Our approach
Tutors SA uses explicit teaching methodology with structured lessons, practical examples, and in-depth concept teaching to help students develop a thorough understanding of their subjects. Sessions include weekly homework, regular mini-class tests, and continuous feedback to parents. The centre offers both small group tutoring (maximum 10 students per class) and one-on-one tuition, with a hybrid model integrating face-to-face and online learning. The tutors focus on developing flexibility in thinking, reasoning, and encouraging intellectual independence, with a commitment to helping students achieve academic excellence while building long-term learning skills and a growth mindset.
Working with families
Tutors SA maintains regular communication with parents through continuous feedback on student progress, including feedback from mini-class tests and weekly homework. The centre conducts regular discussions with students and parents upon request to understand their child's capabilities, confidence, ambitions and aspirations, and to celebrate achievements. Parents receive frequent updates designed to enable evaluation of student progress and mentor them to become better learners. The centre provides a family-like environment with supporting staff, and emphasises collaboration and connection with families as part of their core values of mentorship and relationship-building.
Meet the team
The team comprises highly experienced and qualified tutors, most holding postgraduate qualifications including PhDs and master's degrees. All English tutors are registered school teachers with years of experience and relevant qualifications. Dr. Don Wenura Dissanayake, the founder, has over 20 years of tutoring experience in Mathematics and Physics, scholarship entry preparation, and undergraduate Engineering. Named tutors include Ryan Clarke (Science, Biology, Chemistry, Maths), Dr. Sanuri Liyanage (Chemistry, Biology & Science), and many others specialising in various subjects and age groups. The centre is led by Dr. Don and has a supporting team of over 50 local Adelaide tutors working across the two centres.
