  • Our approach

At Troppo, therapy sessions combine clinical expertise with a warm, approachable style focused on helping children develop skills naturally and meaningfully. The practice offers flexible options—community-based sessions in everyday environments like parks, playgrounds, homes and schools, or clinic-based sessions in their welcoming Fitzroy North space. Sessions are child-centred and evidence-based, using play-based approaches and practical strategies that children can use in real-world settings. As a neurodiverse-affirming practice, therapists celebrate each child's differences and build on their unique strengths. Whether working with early years, school-age children, or adolescents, the focus is on creating engaging, hands-on sessions tailored to each child's needs.

  • Working with families

The practice values collaborative care and works closely with parents and families throughout therapy. Therapists work together with educators, teachers, and other allied health professionals to ensure consistent, comprehensive support across all areas of a child's life. Telehealth sessions are available for convenient parent consultations and allow for effective parent coaching and collaborative discussions about your child's progress and strategies. The team builds genuine connections with families and involves them in goal-setting and therapeutic work, respecting each family's unique circumstances and priorities. Communication happens directly through the practice, with families able to contact the team via email, phone or contact form to discuss their child's therapy needs.

  • Meet the team

The team consists of three occupational therapists. Sophie, the founder and senior occupational therapist, graduated from the University of South Australia in 2016 and brings diverse paediatric experience including acute hospital work, community services, and remote NDIS work in Arnhem Land. Mackenzie graduated from Australian Catholic University in 2023 with varied background experience as a nanny, disability support worker and allied health assistant, and has completed specialised DIR/Floortime training. Laurien also graduated from Australian Catholic University with over four years' experience across various settings, including roles as an allied health assistant and educator in a specialist school. All three therapists are registered occupational therapists with a commitment to family-centred, strengths-based, neurodiverse-affirming practice.

  • Your first visit

Initial assessments are thorough and personalised, designed to understand your child's unique strengths and challenges across home, school, and community environments. The assessment process helps therapists develop an individualised therapy plan that addresses specific developmental needs and establishes meaningful goals. For functional capacity assessments, therapists evaluate your child's abilities in everyday activities and identify practical strategies to improve independence. These detailed assessments also provide strong documentation to support NDIS planning meetings and funding reviews. The comprehensive approach ensures the plan aligns with your family's priorities and clearly demonstrates how therapy will make a difference in your child's everyday life.
