• Our approach

  Treehouse OT Services uses a comprehensive, child-centred approach that focuses on understanding not just what a child can do, but how they go about tasks—examining their approach, movement patterns and problem-solving strategies. Sessions are tailored to each child's needs and can include observation of performance in everyday activities like writing, cutting, drawing, ball skills and movement tasks. The service emphasises quality intervention and best practice, with therapists committed to ongoing professional development. Sessions are flexible in duration (30 to 45 minutes) and frequency, with many families choosing 45-minute sessions fortnightly at a consistent, convenient time. The service also collaborates with teachers and other health professionals when needed to support the child across home, school and childcare environments.

• Working with families

  Family involvement is central to how Treehouse OT Services works with children. Parents complete a questionnaire as part of the assessment process, and information from this is used to prepare the detailed assessment report. The service provides home, childcare and school programs with specific strategies and activities for you to implement in your child's everyday environments. Therapists also collaborate with your child's teachers and other health professionals (with your consent) and can conduct visits to childcare or school settings to observe your child and offer recommendations to support their engagement in those spaces.

• Meet the team

  Treehouse OT Services is led by two registered occupational therapists, Domanique Geerling and Kerryn Morrison, both holding qualifications in occupational therapy (B.App. Sc). Together they bring over 50 years of combined experience, with both having worked overseas and extensively in the local Illawarra area. Both therapists have their own families and are committed to ongoing professional development to ensure they provide quality, evidence-based care to children and families. They work within a multidisciplinary model, maintaining regular contact with other allied health professionals including speech pathologists, physiotherapists and psychologists.

• Your first visit

  The first appointment is a comprehensive assessment lasting approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, designed to identify your child's strengths and areas of need. The assessment includes discussion about areas of concern, observation of how your child performs everyday occupational tasks (such as writing, cutting, drawing, puzzles and ball skills), and information gathered from a parent questionnaire. Following the assessment, you'll receive a detailed report along with a home, childcare and school program that includes specific strategies and activities you can use in your child's familiar environments. If there is only one specific area of concern, the therapist may offer a shorter screening appointment instead.
