  • Our approach

Sessions at Therapy and Beyond use exploration, joy, and play to help children learn and build confidence. The team takes a holistic, play-based approach to assessment and intervention, working closely with families to build practical skills that support participation in everyday life at home, school, and in the community. Every session is designed to help children develop independence and engagement while having fun in imaginative clinic spaces. The therapists get to know each child to work out what works for them and implement their interests into sessions, ensuring learning happens through play. This evidence-based approach means therapy is most powerful when it feels like play.

  • Working with families

Family involvement is central to the service, with the team taking a family-centred approach that prioritises getting to know clients and their families. Parents and carers are included in pre-session and post-session telehealth calls to discuss findings, recommendations, and next steps. The therapists provide practical sensory and play strategies for families to continue at home between sessions. Parent coaching is offered as a specialisation, and the team works closely with families to build skills and confidence, ensuring children can engage meaningfully in their everyday environments. Communication with other providers is also arranged as needed to support coordinated care.

  • Meet the team

The team includes Simone Sant, the director and a paediatric occupational therapist with over 10 years' experience supporting children with sensory, developmental, and emotional regulation challenges. Simone specialises in sensory processing, emotional regulation, trauma-informed care, parent/carer attachment, play and social skills, and activities of daily living. She takes a holistic, play-based approach and is passionate about providing family-centred service tailored to individual needs. De'Arne provides administrative support and brings warmth, creativity, and organisation to the role, with a background in administration, communications, and client care across health and education.

  • Your first visit

The initial appointment is an opportunity to discuss any difficulties your child may be having, explore their strengths and interests, and learn how occupational therapy can help. During this time, the therapist will talk with you about what intervention may look like for your child. The start-up session package includes a pre-session telehealth call (30-45 minutes), the face-to-face assessment session (up to two hours) where play-based activities are used to observe and engage with your child, a summary report with recommendations, and a post-session telehealth call (30-45 minutes) to discuss findings. Communication with other providers is also arranged as needed.
