  • Our approach

The Nest takes a warm, personalised approach grounded in evidence-based practice and neuro-affirmation. Psychologists tailor their methods to each young person's individual strengths, interests, and needs, using frameworks like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Play-Based Therapy. Sessions focus on helping children and adolescents develop emotional coping skills, manage stress and anxiety, navigate relationships, and build resilience and self-empowerment. The team emphasises creating a relaxed, creative, and collaborative environment where young people feel secure enough to learn and grow, celebrating the diversity of how minds work rather than pathologising difference.

  • Meet the team

The team consists of two registered psychologists who are co-founders and independent practitioners affiliated with The Nest. Ellie Gwytther is a registered psychologist with ten years of experience across primary and senior schools and private practice, bringing a relaxed and creative approach with a passion for helping young people navigate life's challenges. Nia Thavapal is a clinical, educational, and developmental psychologist with over a decade of experience in not-for-profit organisations, educational settings, paediatric multidisciplinary teams, and private practice, bringing expertise across multiple evidence-based therapeutic frameworks and comprehensive assessment work.

  • Your first visit

The initial consultation is a 50-minute session for new clients, followed by 10 minutes for the psychologist to complete referral correspondence, write notes, and develop an initial case formulation and treatment plan. The session can be conducted in person or via telehealth (video or phone). Your psychologist will work with you to understand your child's unique situation and tailor their approach accordingly, beginning the process of building the safe, trusting foundation that supports meaningful progress and learning.
