  • Our approach

Sessions at Takes Care Specialist Centre are client-centred and conducted in a friendly, relaxing environment where every effort is made to help you feel safe and valued. The team uses evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to individual needs, including trauma-informed care, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Positive Psychology. Psychologists identify the causes and contributing factors to mental health symptoms while working with you to find your specific pathway to psychological health and wellbeing. Whether you choose face-to-face sessions at their Woolloongabba location or convenient telehealth appointments via Skype, FaceTime, or WhatsApp, the focus is on helping you gain understanding, equip you with tools to cope and recover, and ultimately increase your confidence and sense of control.

  • Working with families

Family involvement is central to the service philosophy. The centre offers couples and relationship counselling as well as family therapy, recognising that family support plays a pivotal role in recovery and wellbeing. Rosalba Medoro brings a warm, family-focused approach to therapy, while Katayoon emphasises person-centred, culturally sensitive care. Family counselling sessions facilitate understanding, communication, and collaboration among family members to foster a supportive environment. The team works to educate families about mental health challenges and effective coping strategies, promoting empathy and reducing stigma. When you call to book an appointment, staff can guide you through the process and discuss how family involvement might be incorporated into your care plan.

  • Your first visit

At your first appointment, you'll be welcomed by friendly staff who work to put you at ease. The initial assessment involves gathering information through either a referral form (if you're an NDIS participant) or a registration form to prepare a Service Agreement tailored to your needs. If you're seeing both a psychiatrist and psychologist, they can discuss your case together to provide better outcomes. The centre takes confidentiality seriously, and all conversations and records are kept private. To get started, you'll need to call the centre on 07 3870 9388 to book, or visit their website to book online—if you want to claim a Medicare rebate, you'll need a GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan first.
