• Our approach

  Sessions are designed to help children feel safe and be themselves, with a focus on identifying sensory, social and emotional difficulties. Occupational therapists use play-based activities tailored to each child's interests to increase engagement, and parents are actively involved in learning strategies they can use to support their child's regulation in everyday environments. The clinic is home to fully equipped sensory-based rooms, and therapists work in partnership with families and schools or preschools as needed. Individual goals are customised based on the child's developmental requirements and capabilities.

• Working with families

  Parents and carers are active partners in therapy, with opportunities to participate in and observe sessions in the clinic. The team teaches parents practical strategies to support their child's regulation and development, empowering them to reciprocate these techniques in the child's everyday environments at home, school and preschool. Communication with families is ongoing, including receiving parent feedback during sessions and providing reports as requested, such as NDIS annual reviews or progress reports for schools. Parents also make key decisions about their child's care, including choosing the starting beach location for surf therapy based on their knowledge of their child.

• Meet the team

  The team consists of multiple qualified Occupational Therapists and an Occupational Therapy Assistant, all with a strong focus on paediatrics. Team members include Izzy, Aimee, Monique, Kiera, Jacob, Tiana and Chloe, all holding at minimum a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, with several having completed or undertaking specialised certifications such as Ayres Sensory Integration (CASI) and the Astronaut Training Program. Several therapists have additional experience in specific areas: Kiera holds a Swim Australia Teacher Certificate and has completed the Autism Swim Certificate; Monique brings over eight years of paediatric experience across clinical and school settings. The team is committed to ongoing professional development and bringing diverse experience from community, hospital, school and specialised clinic backgrounds.

• Your first visit

  The process begins with a detailed assessment to understand each child's sensory, cognitive, and motor capabilities, which establishes the foundation for setting individualised, achievable goals. Prior to the first session, families complete a questionnaire to help determine whether to begin with an initial OT assessment in the clinic or proceed directly to sessions tailored to the child's needs. The team may recommend starting at a quieter beach location for children with limited beach exposure to build confidence before progressing. Sessions are then crafted into intervention plans with therapeutic activities designed to boost the child's skills and support them in navigating challenges.
