Our approach
Therapy focuses on working with children through positive and effective activities to develop behaviour, social, emotional and learning goals tailored to their presenting concerns. The approach addresses specific areas including behavioural issues, emotional regulation, receptive and expressive communication, and social skills. Sessions are interactive and consultations are designed to be tailored to each child's needs. Parents are involved throughout, with the psychologist discussing strategies, goals and progress, and supporting continuation of therapy goals at home.
Working with families
Parents are core partners in the therapeutic process. The psychologist works closely with parents throughout consultations, discussing strategies, goals, progress and any questions that arise. Sessions include dedicated time for the psychologist to connect with parents about how to support and continue therapy goals outside of the consultation room, ensuring continuity of progress at home.
Meet the team
Sarah D'Souza is the Director and Lead Psychologist with close to 10 years of experience working with children and families. She brings expertise in early intervention and has worked with families across Melbourne and interstate. The psychologist works collaboratively with GPs, paediatricians, schools and allied health professionals to develop effective, tailored support plans for each child.
Your first visit
The initial consultation brings together parents and the psychologist to develop a tailored therapy plan based on your child's presenting concerns. During this session, the Client Service Agreement will be discussed to clarify expectations and next steps. Standard therapy consultations on-site are 50 minutes long, with clinical notes being written during and after the session. Following this initial appointment, subsequent sessions involve working with your child on targeted goals whilst also allowing time for the psychologist to discuss progress, strategies and questions with parents.
