  • Our approach

Speech & Language Support Services combines evidence-based practice with creativity and care to make learning feel fun, achievable and rewarding. Sessions are play-based and follow your child's interests, with therapists building strong connections and staying playful throughout. The practice is founded on the belief that communication isn't just words—it includes gestures, body language, giggles, signs and pictures. Therapy sessions personalise support to each child's unique personality and passions, with progress measured through small wins that build confidence, participation and momentum. The approach emphasises that therapy happens every day through small moments at home, not just once a week, with parents partnering alongside therapists for lasting results.

  • Working with families

The practice is deeply committed to partnering with parents and carers, believing that therapy works best when families are involved in everyday moments at home. Progress happens through consistent home practice, which can be as simple as five to ten minutes a day to reinforce key skills, keep routines familiar and rebuild confidence. Your child's speech pathologist provides written notes after each session and discusses current goals and progress with you regularly. The practice emphasises that communication is everyday and that small wins at home build confidence, participation and progress. Strong relationships with families create stronger therapy outcomes, with the clinic functioning as a welcoming, supportive space where families feel truly heard and understood.

  • Meet the team

The team includes Speech Pathologists with varying levels of experience (ranging from eight to thirty years) and Allied Health Assistants who deliver sessions under Speech Pathologist supervision. The practice was founded by Melinda Cassells, a Speech Pathologist with over 30 years of experience. Speech Pathologists study for four years full-time or complete a Masters degree over two to three years, covering subjects like neuroanatomy, psychology, statistics and communication. Allied Health Assistants work with identified clients following the goals and activities set by supervising Speech Pathologists, providing additional therapy time. The team also includes Hamish and Murphy, therapy dogs who have been part of the team for over 13 years.

  • Your first visit

The initial consultation lasts one hour and includes information gathering, a play-based or formal assessment depending on your child's needs, and may involve starting therapy activities. Notes are written during the session and provided to you afterwards. The consultation costs $215 and is charged on your first visit or after a long break from therapy. Your speech pathologist will discuss your child's needs, gather relevant background information, and begin building the supportive connection that underpins their approach. This first session helps determine the best pathway forward and sets the foundation for your family's therapy journey.
