  • Our approach

Red Thread Psychology uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) methods focused on brain retraining. Sessions create a relaxed, comfortable and confidential space where you and the psychologist collaborate to understand your experiences and develop practical skills and tools to manage difficulties. The approach explores past experiences that may trigger distressing thoughts and feelings, supporting greater self-awareness and healing. The psychologist works with you to identify and challenge negative thought patterns, encouraging the formation of healthier thinking and behaviours through consistent practice and therapeutic exercises. This harnesses the brain's neuroplasticity—its ability to form new neural connections and adapt throughout life.

  • Meet the team

Red Thread Psychology is led by Terri Jane Mackay, a psychologist holding a four-year undergraduate degree in psychology and a two-year master's degree in psychological counselling. She has experience working across diverse settings including schools, aged care, integrated health services and private practice. Her motivation centres on helping individuals navigate life's challenges and find their path to greater life satisfaction.

  • Your first visit

The first appointment is 50 minutes long and includes completing necessary paperwork and a psychometric evaluation. During this time, background information is gathered and an overview of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is provided. This initial session establishes the foundation for your treatment plan and helps the psychologist understand your concerns and goals. You can expect a thorough assessment that informs the collaborative approach going forward.
