  • Our approach

Gemma Williams takes a family-centred and evidence-based approach to therapy. Sessions focus on supporting children with developmental milestones, fine motor challenges, and play and life skills through targeted interventions. The service offers sensory processing assessment using the Sensory Profile to identify how children perceive and respond to their sensory world, handwriting intervention with assessment of underlying visual perceptual and motor skills, and comprehensive assessments tailored to each child's specific difficulties and needs. Therapy may be delivered in clinic or school settings, with the therapist working collaboratively to help children reach their potential.

  • Working with families

Family involvement is central to the approach, with assessment needs made in consultation with your child's family and their school based on your child's difficulties and needs. Before the first appointment, you complete an online questionnaire to help the therapist understand your child better. Sessions are collaborative, working together to support your child's needs, and the therapist liaises with schools and families throughout therapy to ensure goals are tailored and progress is shared.

  • Meet the team

Gemma Williams is a paediatric occupational therapist who holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Sydney. She has extensive experience working in both public and private sectors across community health, hospital, clinic-based and school-based settings. Throughout her career, she has specialised in paediatrics and worked with many diagnostic groups, employing functional and sensory intervention approaches, and has a strong background in multidisciplinary team collaboration.

  • Your first visit

When you book an appointment through the clinic at Helensburgh, you'll normally be asked to complete an online paediatric occupational therapy questionnaire before your first visit. This helps Gemma learn more about your child before you meet. At the first appointment, you'll meet together and work collaboratively on understanding and supporting your child's needs. The initial assessment can be observational screening or a full standardised developmental assessment, depending on what's discussed with you and your child's school, and may assess fine motor skills, gross motor skills, handwriting, visual motor and perceptual skills, or sensory processing.
