Our approach
Q Psychology works within a person-centred approach and LGBTQIA-affirming and neuroaffirming frameworks, committed to providing high-quality and compassionate mental health support. The clinic delivers evidence-based therapy services tailored to each individual's unique experiences, identity and needs. Sessions are available both in-person and via Telehealth, with standard appointments lasting 50 minutes. Many of the psychologists bring lived experience alongside their clinical expertise, and the team strives to create safe and affirming environments for all clients. The clinic is particularly recognised for its work in LGBTQIA+ and neuroaffirming mental health care.
Working with families
Parents and carers are central to the assessment and treatment process. For children under 18, an interview is conducted with the parent, guardian, or the person who best knows the young person as part of any assessment. The clinic actively gathers collateral information from teachers, family members and others who know the child well. While parents are not required to attend every session, they can choose to do so if their child prefers or experiences distress when separated. Feedback sessions and reports are provided to help parents understand results and recommendations, which can be shared with schools and other supporters.
Meet the team
The Colac team includes psychologists trained in neuro-affirming and evidence-based practice. At Q Psychology broadly, the team comprises psychologists at various levels of qualification (from Provisional Psychologists through to Clinical Psychologists), plus mental health accredited social workers and counsellors. Psychologists have completed at least a four-year university degree in psychology, with many holding further postgraduate qualifications. Several psychologists are specifically trained in autism and ADHD assessments. The team is committed to high-quality and compassionate support, with many clinicians bringing lived experience alongside their professional expertise.
