  • Our approach

Play & Bloom uses a play-based approach to support children's development across fine motor, play, personal independence, cognition and social skills. The practice has a special interest in early intervention for autistic and neurodivergent children. Sessions incorporate your child's interests and embed learning objectives into play and natural opportunities within the clinic setting. The aim is to create a safe space where children feel free to be themselves and practice skills that are important to them and their families. Goals are developed collaboratively with parents to ensure therapy targets what matters most to you.

  • Working with families

Play & Bloom values family involvement and collaboration at every stage. Parents are actively consulted during the initial play-based assessment about their priorities and goals for their child. The team brainstorms ways to incorporate your child's learning objectives at home and welcomes your input into goal-setting. Additionally, the practice collaborates with your child's early childhood educators through consultation visits and team meetings to support your child's participation in kindergarten and childcare. Communication is centred on partnership with families.

  • Meet the team

The practice is led by Gabrielle Toscano, the director and a senior occupational therapist with over 14 years of paediatric experience. Gabrielle opened Play & Bloom in 2023 and celebrates all children and their individuality. She is committed to creating a safe, supportive space for children and understands the parenting journey from personal experience as a parent to two preschool-aged children herself.

  • Your first visit

The first appointment begins with a play-based assessment of your child's development, where the therapist observes your child in a natural, play-focused setting. You'll also be asked about your priorities and what you'd like your child to work towards. Following the assessment, the team will develop and agree upon a set of goals for your child with you. This collaborative process ensures that occupational therapy sessions are targeting the things that are important to your family. Clear goals are established so you know what each session is working towards.
