  • Our approach

Perth Speech Therapy takes a strengths-based, family-centred approach focused on building children's confidence and self-esteem through evidence-based techniques. Sessions are fun, interactive, motivating and relevant to each child's goals, using play-based learning wherever possible. The team uses proven programs tailored to individual needs—including Sounds Write for literacy, PROMPT for speech sounds, Lidcombe for stuttering, and Hanen strategies for language development. All programs are designed to be low-pressure and accessible, with parents trained to deliver follow-up activities at home so progress continues between sessions.

  • Working with families

Family involvement is central to Perth Speech Therapy's model—parents are trained to deliver follow-up activities at home and are engaged at every step of assessment and treatment. The team provides coaching on strategies for supporting language development, communication skills, and feeding in everyday life, recognising that strong partnership with parents produces the best results. Regular communication ensures parents understand their child's progress and challenges, and families are supported to establish goals together that work best for their child's needs both in and out of the clinic.

  • Meet the team

The team includes seven qualified speech pathologists, each with a Bachelor of Science Honours in Speech Pathology and varied specialisations. Jenny is also a teacher and autism assessor trained in Sounds Write, PROMPT, Talk 4 Writing, and Lidcombe. Sweta holds a Masters in Clinical Audiology and specialises in speech-sound disorders and literacy. Liz has training in Sounds-Write, Talk 4 Writing, Hanen, and Responsive Feeding Therapy. Atousa and others bring experience in early intervention, stuttering, dyslexia, and dysphagia. Shelby specialises in Parkinson's disease, while Lauren brings lived experience with stuttering. All pathologists are trained in evidence-based programs and take a collaborative, family-centred approach.

  • Your first visit

The first assessment involves a comprehensive review of the child's history and communication needs, along with observation of their speech, language, and literacy skills in action. The therapist will gather information about the child's goals and any specific challenges, then develop a clear, personalised plan tailored to that child's strengths and needs. For feeding assessments specifically, this includes a mealtime history, observation of eating and drinking skills, and screening of sensory and oral-motor factors. You'll leave with concrete strategies and next steps to support your child at home.
