Our approach
Our Place Kids Therapy uses a family-centred approach, recognising the importance of working in partnership with families. Sessions involve coaching and mentoring for parents, teachers and other adults in the child's life, grounded in best and evidence-based practices. The team works closely with the adults around the child to support learning and development, helping children with developmental delays or disabilities to be included in family life at home, in community settings like childcare centres and schools, and in play and sport. An individualised intervention plan is developed for each child, family and teachers, with a focus on supporting the child in their natural environments and everyday experiences and activities.
Working with families
Our Place Kids Therapy works in partnership with families as a core part of its approach. Families can choose to purchase Key Worker services, which provides a main point of contact who organises and coordinates the service. Parents and families are provided with knowledge, skills and support to meet the needs of their child and optimise their child's development and ability to participate in family and community life. The team supports families through coaching and mentoring, assists with developing individualised intervention plans, and provides support at times of transition to school.
Meet the team
The team consists of Specialist Early Intervention Teachers with extensive qualifications and experience. Kim Avery is the Director with a Bachelor in Early Childhood Education, a Post Graduate Diploma specialising in Early Childhood Intervention, a Post Graduate Certificate in Management in Early Childhood Services, and a Masters Degree in Early Intervention. She has 14 years of experience as a Specialist Early Intervention Teacher. Jen Sayers is also a Director with a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Studies and Early Years Professional Status, with 22 years of experience in the early childhood sector across multiple roles. Both Specialists have expertise in working with children with developmental delays and disabilities, and work closely with parents, teachers and other health professionals to support individual children's learning needs.
Your first visit
The initial appointment is a dedicated 60-minute meeting where the team gets to know you, talks through the services offered and completes all necessary paperwork. Your child does not need to attend this first meeting. It is helpful to come prepared with a copy of your NDIS plan and goals (if applicable) and to think about what you want to achieve and how it fits with your family routine and availability.
