  • Our approach

BUSHkids adopts a family-centred approach when supporting families, meeting with you to understand what support your child needs, the behaviours you want to change, and the skills you want to improve. Following assessment, the team develops a plan specifically tailored to help you and your family achieve your goals. The needs of each family are different, so support may involve a combination of individual sessions, group programs and community-based activities. Sessions focus on helping children with fine and gross motor difficulties, emotional regulation and sensory processing, communication difficulties, behavioural problems and anxiety, with expert advice and education provided to families alongside direct work with children.

  • Working with families

BUSHkids works closely with families and provides ongoing support, parenting education and information to help your child's development. The team involves parents and carers as partners in the process, developing plans specifically tailored to your family's needs and goals. Family Health Support Workers provide evidence-based parenting programs such as Triple P, 1-2-3 Magic, and Circle of Security, which can help improve children's behaviour and increase parental and carer confidence. Communication is central to the family-centred approach, ensuring families are informed and supported throughout their engagement with the service.

  • Your first visit

At your first appointment, a Child and Family Facilitator or allied health clinician will meet with you to find out what support your child needs, the behaviours you want to change, and the skills you want to improve. This assessment helps the team understand your family's specific situation and goals. Following this initial visit, the clinician will develop a plan to help you and your family achieve your goals, which may include individual support, group sessions, and community-based programs provided by the service.

There's no "too early." If you have concerns about your child's talking or understanding at any age, an assessment can clarify whether support would help.

Session length varies between clinics and services, so check it with the provider when you book. The number depends on your child's goals; the pathologist will recommend a plan after the initial assessment.
