Our approach
OT Kidz uses a client-centred and holistic approach to therapy, with goals formulated and prioritised in collaboration with families. Occupational Therapists conduct both standardised assessments and unstructured play-based assessments to understand each child's unique needs across all areas of paediatric therapy. Sessions are delivered in the clinic space in McLaren Vale with access to extensive on-site resources, and occasionally in community settings such as childcare, kindergarten and school. Weekly or fortnightly therapy sessions of 45 minutes are typically recommended, with resources and strategies provided for parents, teachers and other caregivers to support the therapy process at home and in school. The practice also offers telehealth services to complement clinic-based therapy when distance or scheduling challenges arise, ensuring continuity of care.
Working with families
OT Kidz engages families actively throughout the therapy process, with goals and therapy plans formulated in collaboration with parents and carers from the initial assessment. Resources are provided to parents, teachers and other caregivers to engage them in the therapy process between sessions. Therapists engage in regular collaboration with your child's support network, including educators and other health professionals, to provide integrated and consistent support across all environments. The practice works closely with families on NDIS matters, assisting with planning, accessing therapy supports and scheduled reviews. Open communication and partnership with families is central to achieving the best possible outcomes for each child.

Your first visit
An individualised assessment is conducted based on your concerns, using the child's developmental history, standardised assessment tools and observations to guide the process. The Occupational Therapist develops goals and a therapy plan in collaboration with the family, taking a client-centred approach that prioritises what matters most to your child and your family. At the end of the appointment, options for ongoing therapy are discussed in detail so you can make informed decisions about your child's support. A written report can be provided upon request, outlining the assessment findings and results. This initial appointment sets the foundation for tailored, family-centred therapy that addresses your child's unique needs.
