  • Our approach

MoveAbout uses a developmental, play-based and relationship-based approach to occupational therapy, tailoring assessment and treatment sessions to meet the individual needs of each child and family. Therapy incorporates a range of philosophies and techniques including Sensory Processing Theory and DIR/Floortime methods, with sessions utilising specialised facilities and resources including 100 options for swinging, slides and ball pits. The service emphasises connection with caregivers, sensory and motor-based interventions, and practical strategies that support children to participate more independently in everyday activities such as feeding, dressing, toileting and learning. Sessions are designed to be engaging and fun while working toward functional goals that matter to the family.

  • Working with families

MoveAbout is deeply committed to supporting the people who support the kids, meaning parents and caregivers are central to the therapy process. The service offers parent coaching, training and education to help families understand therapeutic techniques and continue supporting their child outside of sessions, with caregiver involvement both during therapy sessions and in dedicated caregiver consultations to enhance effectiveness. Therapists work in partnership with families to develop functional goals that matter to you, and they also collaborate with the child's broader team of healthcare providers to achieve desired outcomes. The team values a collaborative approach where feedback and communication with parents helps tailor interventions to individual needs and ensures therapy feels practical and connected to real life.

  • Meet the team

MoveAbout has more than 20 qualified occupational therapists with extensive experience across varied specialisations, all of whom regularly attend professional development to ensure approaches are underpinned by current research and innovation. The service was founded in 2008 by Dave Jereb, who holds a Master of Health Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Sydney and has over 20 years of industry experience, and Kathy Jereb, also a University of Sydney graduate with background in paediatric occupational therapy including work with leaders like Sheila Frick. Each of the three clinics is led by a senior occupational therapist as Clinical Manager, and all therapists receive weekly professional 1:1 mentoring and group supervision, with access to mentoring groups and case studies via Zoom with international industry leaders. Therapists have training in a range of specialised techniques including DIR/Floortime, Sensory Integration, Interactive Metronome, Therapeutic Listening and the Alert Program for Self-Regulation.

  • Your first visit

A first appointment involves a 90-minute diagnostic assessment with one of the occupational therapists at a MoveAbout clinic. Before attending, you can call the team on 02 4389 1812 to chat ahead of your appointment if you have any concerns or questions about what to expect. Being fully informed about the process helps you and your child feel prepared, and the great thing about occupational therapy is that it can be a lot of fun. Your therapist will use this assessment time to understand your child's specific needs and your family's goals, setting the foundation for tailored therapy planning.
