Several therapists are pursuing advanced postgraduate degrees including PhDs in biomedical science and tendinopathy. Melbourne Hand Rehab was established in 1991 by Karen Fitt, an Accredited Hand Therapist and past president of the Australian Hand Therapy Association, who continues to mentor the leadership team. The service operates with a thorough mentoring and skills-sharing program, and therapists volunteer with Interplast to train hand therapists overseas, reflecting their commitment to advancing the profession.
Your first visit
At your first appointment, arrive 10 minutes early to complete the New Patient form. If your child is a musician or athlete, bring any relevant instruments or sports equipment they use with the injured hand, or a video recording of the activity if equipment cannot be brought in. If any imaging has been done, bring all results with you. The therapist will conduct a thorough initial assessment, discuss your child's condition and create a personalised treatment plan to help them get back to doing what they love.
