Our approach
At Little Light Therapy, occupational therapy focuses on helping children develop the skills they need for daily life, play and learning. The team works on motor skills, sensory processing, daily living skills and social-emotional development through a strengths-based, whole family approach tailored to each child's unique needs. Sessions are offered in multiple settings—clinic, home, school, preschool or via telehealth—so you can choose what works best for your family. The therapists are passionate about empowering children to participate fully in school, at home and in their community, fostering independence and confidence as they work towards their goals.
Working with families
The team uses a whole family approach and conducts an intake session with parents or caregivers at the start to establish goals together and gain understanding of your child. Group programs are available to help children build confidence and connect with others through fun, interactive sensory-based activities. The therapists work collaboratively with families and are happy to guide you through the process of accessing support, including helping with questions about referrals, rebates and different funding options.
Meet the team
The team includes Michelle Armstrong, the Director and an Occupational Therapist with 8 years' healthcare experience and expertise in sensory processing, motor skills, emotional regulation and social skills. Eliesa Rasco is an Occupational Therapy Supervisor with over 6 years' experience supporting children with different abilities using a strengths-based approach. Tia Bohringer and Nathalie Avery are both Occupational Therapists bringing warmth, compassion and experience supporting children and young adults with diverse needs. All therapists have experience in the early childhood space and with older children, teenagers and young adults, and Jacob, a recently graduated therapy dog, supports the team in creating a comforting and relaxed environment.
Your first visit
At your first appointment, there is an intake session with a parent or caregiver to establish goals and gain an understanding of your child through a team-based approach. Depending on your circumstances, the team will either commence therapy sessions or conduct an assessment at home, in clinic, at school/preschool, or via telehealth to identify what skills are needed to reach your child's goals. This initial process helps the occupational therapists understand your family's needs so they can provide the best therapy possible. A variety of standardised and non-standardised assessments may be conducted to identify your child's strengths and areas of concern, and these can be used for funding reports.
