Our approach
Therapy at Hope Kids OT uses a family-centred, strengths-based approach tailored to each child's individual needs, interests and goals across home, school and community settings. Sessions are play-based and engaging, incorporating a variety of therapeutic techniques including sensory integration, structured play and social skills training to make learning enjoyable and effective. The team values building strong therapeutic relationships with children and families, using activities like climbing, jumping, drawing and cutting alongside targeted interventions for emotional regulation, motor skills and daily living tasks. Therapy addresses the foundational life skills that matter most—sensory wellbeing, emotional regulation, social connection, body awareness and executive functioning—recognising that these are just as essential as academic skills. Individual therapy sessions are customised to each child's needs and include parent education so families can follow through with strategies at home.
Working with families
The team is committed to partnership with parents and carers, recognising that meaningful progress happens when families work collaboratively with professionals toward shared goals. Individual therapy sessions include parent education so families can follow through with strategies at home and across daily routines. Open communication is central to the approach—the team listens to what you observe about your child, what feels hard in daily life, and what matters most to your family, then translates this into practical, achievable goals that fit your child and your family. Families are supported in understanding their child's developmental strengths and challenges, and the team offers parent and family workshops alongside individual therapy. The provider also conducts school and kinder visits and offers consultation services to ensure consistent support across home, school and community environments.
Meet the team
The team includes experienced occupational therapists, an OT Assistant Team Leader, and support staff committed to ongoing professional development. The Director and founder, May Lee, brings over 17 years of clinical experience and leads a team passionate about helping children grow in confidence, connection and calm. Team members hold Bachelor degrees in Occupational Therapy from universities including Australian Catholic University, Deakin University and Monash University, with extensive backgrounds supporting children with autism, ADHD, developmental delays, sensory processing difficulties and genetic conditions across various settings including special schools, mainstream schools, community services and private practice. Therapists bring experience in evidence-based approaches such as DIR Floortime, Ayres Sensory Integration and family-centred practice, and many are fluent in multiple languages to support families from diverse cultural backgrounds. The close-knit team values collaboration, lifelong learning and mentoring future paediatric occupational therapists.
