  • Our approach

Sessions are child-focused and engaging, designed so children enjoy and actively participate in therapy. Suzanne uses a variety of approaches including cognitive behavioural strategies (such as CO-OP) and sensory integration to address functional issues. She works closely with parents using a coaching model to build their capacity to problem-solve issues at home and school. Treatment extends across all areas of the child's life—classroom, home and social settings—by collaborating with the child, parents and teachers. Sessions can be arranged at your child's school, allowing direct coordination with teachers.

  • Working with families

Parents are viewed as experts in their own children, and the therapist uses a coaching model to build parental capacity to solve functional problems at home and school. The initial assessment includes a detailed parent interview and feedback session where findings are discussed. Regular collaboration happens between the therapist, parents and teachers, particularly when sessions are held at school. This partnership approach ensures therapy addresses real-world challenges across all areas of the child's life.

  • Meet the team

Suzanne Dawson is the Principal Occupational Therapist, having graduated from the University of Queensland in 1996 with over 20 years of experience working exclusively with children. She has worked internationally in the USA (Miami), the UK (London NHS), and Australia across various settings including the Cerebral Palsy League, Education Queensland, and Queensland Health. Her specialties include handwriting development, sensory integration, play therapy, school skills and working memory, with expertise across many childhood diagnoses.

  • Your first visit

The initial assessment includes a parent interview, 90 minutes of assessment using standardised and observational tests, and a 60-minute parent feedback session. You will receive a comprehensive written report (taking approximately four hours to prepare) that details findings and recommendations. The total cost is $648, billed as two payments of $324. This thorough assessment provides a clear picture of your child's strengths and areas for development, and guides the direction of any ongoing therapy.
