  • Our approach

The practice uses an individually tailored approach that blends Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Supportive Counselling, and Strengths Based Positive Psychology. Sessions focus on helping you develop psychological flexibility—learning to notice unwanted thoughts and feelings without being controlled by them, while taking action aligned with your personal values and goals. Rather than trying to eliminate difficult emotions, the approach teaches you to accept them and work towards meaningful change in your life. Each 60-minute session builds on the previous one, using practical evidence-based techniques you can apply in daily life, with regular progress reviews and adjustments as needed.

  • Meet the team

The practice is run by Tim Carey, a registered Psychologist fully registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Psychology Society (APS). With over 20 years of experience providing direct care to disabled and able-bodied adults as both a direct carer and psychologist, he has developed expertise across a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, substance use, loss and grief, PTSD, and critical incident debriefing. He maintains his skills with over 30 hours of professional development and supervision each year and is SIRA-accredited for WorkCover and Compulsory Third Party claims.

  • Your first visit

Your first session begins with getting to know each other, where the psychologist will ask about what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, and what you hope to achieve—this is your time to share as much or as little as you're comfortable with. Together, you'll identify your personal goals and what positive change looks like for you, helping to create a tailored approach aligned with your values and desired outcomes. The session is 60 minutes long, and you'll be asked to bring your Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP if applicable. The practice emphasises that you're in control of what you share and the pace of the work, with no pressure to discuss anything you're not ready to explore.
