  • Our approach

Evoke Psychology uses research-based strategies tailored to individual needs, with a focus on helping young people develop greater insights into their feelings, thoughts and behaviours. For younger children, play-based approaches are used to encourage engagement, fun and movement within therapy, while older clients work with evidence-based techniques including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, The Method of Levels and Mindfulness. The clinic takes a strengths-based approach, celebrating small gains and maintaining a patient, accepting environment. Sessions are individualised and flexible, designed to help clients and those around them develop greater capacity to help themselves.

  • Working with families

Parents are included in their child's therapeutic journey as requested, with the psychologist speaking with both parent and child or teen at each session to ensure regular feedback and clarity of goals. Support ideas and strategies are devised in consultation with parents and young people, with the clinic taking the view that families are the experts in their own lives. The clinic works collaboratively with parents to help them develop greater capacity and feel empowered to help themselves, recognising that parental involvement is important for meaningful outcomes.

  • Your first visit

When you call to book an appointment, you'll be asked to complete an intake form that gives an overview of your situation for the initial session. During the first appointment, the psychologist will speak with both the parent and child or teen to ensure regular feedback, clarity of needs and goals, while respecting the confidential nature of the process. At the end of this initial session, the frequency and expected duration of support will be discussed based on a better understanding of the situation. The clinic recommends booking at least four appointments within the first two months to allow intervention to gain traction.
