Our approach
Empower Paediatric Occupational Therapy uses a family-centred, evidence-based and functional approach to support children in maximising their participation in everyday activities at home, school, and in the community. Sessions are delivered in your child's natural learning environments through home visits, kinder visits, school visits, and community outings, which helps maximise the transfer of strategies and skills to real-life settings. The therapist works collaboratively with parents and carers, empowering them with tools to support their child's unique developmental journey. Therapy addresses a wide range of needs including self-care and independence, fine motor skills, play skills, sensory processing, and school readiness through practical, meaningful strategies that families can use in their everyday routines.
Working with families
The service is built on the belief that empowering parents and carers with tools to support their child is central to therapy. Therapy strategies are designed to be meaningful and practical so families can use them at home as part of their everyday routines. The therapist works collaboratively with you, visiting your home, kinder, school, and community settings to ensure strategies transfer to the places where your child spends their time. The therapist also advocates for you and your child, working alongside teachers and other professionals to implement strategies and support your child's development across all environments.
Meet the team
Wendy is a registered practicing occupational therapist with more than a decade of experience working with children in community health, paediatric hospital settings, early intervention, and in schools and kinders. She holds a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy with First Class Honours from La Trobe University and has specialised training in handwriting strategies, continence and toileting, DIR Floortime, School AMPS, functional hand use in hemiplegia, and behaviour support facilitation. She has extensive experience working with children diagnosed with autism, developmental delay, ADHD, and sensory processing differences, with special interests in feeding, handwriting, and supporting pre-verbal autistic children in a neuro-affirming way.
