• Our approach

  PECS conducts comprehensive psychological and educational assessments for children, adolescents and adults using a systematic, diagnostic approach aligned with the DSM-5-TR framework. The service focuses on identifying a wide range of neurodevelopmental and psychological conditions through formal testing, with appointments and reports provided quickly. Dr Langsford or another fully registered psychologist is personally involved with every assessment, ensuring children receive care from highly qualified and experienced professionals. The assessment process is designed to provide medical specialists, educators and families with detailed information to support accurate diagnosis and appropriate intervention planning.

• Working with families

  Parents and carers are involved in the assessment process and receive detailed written reports within 7–10 working days that explain findings and recommendations. The website encourages families to contact PECS for advice about their child's needs and indicates that reports can be shared with GPs, specialists and schools to guide next steps. PECS recommends that if assessment results suggest possible ADHD, parents take the report to their GP so findings can be reviewed and appropriate specialist referral arranged if needed.

• Meet the team

  PECS is operated by Dr Shane Langsford, who holds a PhD in Educational Psychology, Bachelor of Education with First Class Honours, and Bachelor of Psychology, and is fully registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and AHPRA with Endorsement in Educational and Developmental Psychology in Australia and the United Kingdom. He is supported by six other fully registered psychologists, and Dr Langsford has conducted over 12,000 assessments across 26 years. Dr Langsford is a Fellow of the APS College of Educational & Developmental Psychologists and holds full academic member status, reflecting advanced qualifications, research experience and published work in psychology.

• Your first visit

  At the initial appointment, the child undergoes formal psychological and educational assessment using standardised testing batteries appropriate to their age and presenting concerns. The assessment examines cognitive abilities, learning, behaviour and emotional functioning across multiple domains. A fully registered psychologist is personally involved throughout the process. Following the appointment, a comprehensive report is completed within 7–10 working days, detailing findings and recommendations to guide next steps with medical specialists, schools or other support services.
