  • Our approach

Creating Change uses a personalised, skill-based approach tailored to each child's needs. Sessions draw on evidence-based methods including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and neuropsychotherapy. The practice emphasises creating a safe, non-judgmental space where children feel understood and supported, working collaboratively to build practical coping skills and help them reconnect with their values. The goal is not just to address current difficulties, but to create lasting, sustainable change that equips children with confidence and control in their lives.

  • Meet the team

The practice is founded and led by Rebecca Deane, Principal Clinical Psychologist. The team includes Bill Vial and Shannon Salama (both Psychologists Provisional with postgraduate qualifications), and Paul Hegeman (Psychologist with Master's level training). All are registered with the Australian Psychological Society and trained in evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Bill specialises in working with children, adolescents and adults across anxiety, depression and neurodevelopmental conditions. Shannon has extensive experience with children and adolescents experiencing anxiety, trauma, and adjustment difficulties, with particular strength in trauma-informed and neurodiversity-aware practice. Paul brings expertise in behaviour change and addictions. Together, the team prioritises collaboration and welcomes client feedback to ensure progress toward goals.

  • Your first visit

First appointments are extended to 2 hours, allowing plenty of time for you and your child to be heard, understood, and to gain clarity about needs and goals from the start. Rather than feeling rushed, you'll have a thorough initial assessment where the psychologist explores your child's situation, understands the context, and discusses what brought you in. This extended appointment helps establish trust and allows the therapist to develop a customised treatment plan tailored specifically to your child. You'll leave with a clear sense of direction and realistic expectations for moving forward together.
