About ChildsPlay Early Intervention
ChildsPlay Early Intervention is a paediatric Occupational Therapy Service dedicated to helping children develop necessary skills to play, learn, move, interact and achieve independence. They offer specialised evidence-based early intervention programs for young children with or showing signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder or global developmental delay, and are the first paediatric service in Parkes and the Central West to deliver The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM).

Our approach
Occupational Therapy focuses on developing functional skills to help your child become as independent as possible in play, learning, movement and daily activities. Sessions use play-based activities tailored to your child's developmental needs across areas like fine and gross motor skills, self-care, school readiness, handwriting, play skills and regulation. The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) is available for young children with autism or global developmental delay and uses a trans-disciplinary approach, targeting multiple areas of development at once through child-led play with a focus on social-emotional development and communication. Therapy takes place in your home, school, childcare centre or clinic depending on what works best for your family.
Meet the team
Helen Rowbotham is the owner and manager of ChildsPlay Early Intervention. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Edinburgh and has over 25 years of experience across various occupational therapy fields. She has specialised in paediatric therapy for the last 10+ years and is certified as an Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) Therapist through the University of California Davis.
Your first visit
At your first appointment, intake paperwork will be completed and any relevant reports from other health professionals or educators will be gathered. During an ESDM assessment, your child is assessed using the ESDM curriculum checklist, which identifies emerging skills to focus on across all developmental domains. From this assessment, individualised therapy objectives are created. A free 15-minute trial consultation is also available so you can discuss whether occupational therapy is right for your child before committing to full assessment and treatment.
