  • Our approach

The approach is collaborative, structured, and practical, focused on understanding the 'why' behind difficulties rather than just symptoms. Sessions are developmentally appropriate and may include play-based activities, structured tasks, and visual tools to help children express emotions and build skills. The pace is kept safe and manageable, with flexibility rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model. Sessions aim to develop practical strategies that children can use day-to-day and in their home and school environments.

  • Working with families

Parents and carers are an important part of the therapeutic process. The psychologist works closely with parents to develop strategies that are consistent, practical, and transferable to home and school environments. Communication is collaborative, and for teens, while parents or schools may be involved where appropriate, respect is maintained for the young person's autonomy and confidentiality.

  • Meet the team

Joe Lewsey is a Registered Psychologist with over 12 years' experience working with children, adolescents, and adults across educational and private settings. He holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from Murdoch University and a Master of Psychology (Education) from the University of Melbourne, and is AHPRA registered, a Psychology Board Approved Supervisor, and a member of the Association of Australian Psychologists. He has completed over 7,700 hours of therapy and assessments.

  • Your first visit

The first session focuses on understanding your child's background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions about the process and discuss what you'd like to get out of therapy, with no expectation to share everything all at once. This initial appointment helps establish a sense of how you'll work together and whether the approach feels right for your family.
