About BUSHkids Mount Isa
BUSHkids is a not-for-profit organisation which has been supporting the health and wellbeing of children and families in Queensland's regional, rural and remote communities for 90 years. They provide free preventive and early intervention Allied Health care to children and families who are unable to access services locally, due to the unavailability or the affordability of those services, with all BUSHkids services provided free of charge.

- Children's Allied Health Services
- Individual and group allied health assessment, intervention and advice for children up to 13 years of age. Services include occupational therapy, psychology, speech pathology and family health support.
- Children and Parenting Support Services
- Early intervention for children and families to support child development and school readiness, including school readiness programs, supported playgroups, parenting support and home visits.
- Early Childhood Approach (NDIS)
- Intake, assessment, linking and transdisciplinary family-centred early intervention for children younger than 6 with developmental delays and children younger than 9 with disability.
- Healthy Outback Kids
- Allied health services for remote areas of Queensland, providing support for speech and language, and occupational therapy.
- Western Queensland ADHD Workshops
- Workshops for parents, carers and educators available via Zoom to learn about the ADHD brain and evidence-based strategies.
- eKindy
- Comprehensive 'at home' kindergarten program for children unable to attend kindy regularly, delivered through weekly online sessions and regular contact with an eKindy teacher.
- Learning and Development
- Building capacity of communities, parents and workforce to support children's development through education programs, workshops, research and workforce mentoring.

Our approach
The allied health team at Mount Isa takes a family-centred approach to support children's development. Sessions combine expert advice and education for families with individual and group programs tailored to each child's needs, addressing fine and gross motor difficulties, emotional regulation, sensory processing, communication, behavioural problems and anxiety. A Child and Family Facilitator will meet with your family to understand what support your child needs and what goals you want to achieve, then develop a plan that may involve a combination of individual support, group sessions and community-based programs. The team comprises Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Family Health Support Workers and Social Workers, with Psychologist services available via telepractice.
Working with families
The family-centred approach means your involvement is central to all support. The Child and Family Facilitator will work closely with you to understand your family's unique needs and goals, and will develop a plan tailored specifically to help you achieve these. The team provides parenting education and information to support your child's development, and keeps you informed and involved throughout the process. You'll receive expert advice from the allied health clinicians and support with linkage to other agencies or specialist support if needed.
Meet the team
The Mount Isa allied health team comprises Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Family Health Support Workers and Social Workers, with Psychologist services available via telepractice. These multidisciplinary professionals work together to support children and families by providing expert advice, education and a range of individual and group programs. The team is based at the Mount Isa Centre and provides services to the local community and surrounding area.
Your first visit
When you first contact the Mount Isa centre, a Child and Family Facilitator will meet with your family to understand what support your child needs, the behaviours you want to change, and the skills you want to improve. Following this initial assessment, the facilitator will develop a personalised plan to help your family achieve your goals. This plan is designed specifically for your family's needs and may involve a combination of individual support, group sessions and community-based programs. All services are provided free of charge.
