About Built Like Me
Built Like Me is a boutique Occupational Therapy practice supporting children and young people to build emotional regulation, understand their sensory preferences, and develop skills for everyday life. They work with children experiencing challenges such as anxiety, autism, depression, sensory sensitivities, and the impact of stressful life events. Our approach
Built Like Me uses a strength-based, whole-child and whole-family approach to occupational therapy. Carmen collaborates closely with parents, schools, and other professionals to create tailored strategies that are practical and suit your family's needs. Sessions focus on addressing developmental delay, emotional regulation, sensory differences, and mental health challenges through targeted early intervention. The aim is to build confidence, deepen understanding, and promote long-term wellbeing while helping children and families better understand their unique strengths and challenges.
Working with families
Collaborating with parents is a core aspect of Carmen's work—she ensures families feel supported and informed while providing practical tools to use at home, school, and beyond. Built Like Me also offers small group Parent Education Programs designed to extend knowledge and support outside the therapy room in a cost-effective way. By involving parents in the therapeutic process and equipping them with strategies, the practice aims to maximise the impact of occupational therapy and help children and families thrive together.
Meet the team
Carmen Houlihan is a Registered Occupational Therapist with a Mental Health Endorsement from OT Australia and over 15 years of experience in paediatric occupational therapy and public mental health. She views every child as a capable, unique individual and uses a warm, respectful, and empowering approach tailored to each child's mental health and developmental needs. Carmen is dedicated to fostering emotional regulation and effective sensory processing in her clients while ensuring families feel supported and informed throughout the therapeutic process.
Your first visit
To book an initial appointment, you can contact Built Like Me directly or use the online booking system—no referral is necessary. Clinical appointments are available between 9:30 am and 3 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Fridays at the Mooroolbark clinic. Please note that the clinic rooms are located upstairs. When contacting them, you can provide additional information about your child's needs to help Carmen prepare for your appointment.
