  • Our approach

Therapy at Bloom Well-being is grounded in evidence-based approaches tailored specifically to each child and family. EMDR therapy is central to the work, supporting meaningful and sustainable change through curiosity, attunement and care. Therapists draw on a range of modalities—including somatic approaches, attachment-informed work, and person-centred practice—selecting what fits each child's needs, history and goals. Sessions move at the child's pace, with therapists listening closely and working as partners rather than experts. The focus is always on creating a safe, welcoming space where children feel accepted enough to be themselves.

  • Working with families

Parent involvement is woven into child therapy from the start. Child therapy sessions (ages 3–12) are designed as play-based, developmentally appropriate support with parent involvement included as a core part of the work. Family therapy is also offered for whole-family support to strengthen relationships and navigate transitions together. Bloom communicates warmly and respectfully with parents throughout, treating them as partners in their child's healing journey rather than as outsiders to the process.

  • Meet the team

The clinical team includes registered and accredited mental health professionals across two locations. In Creswick: Kelly Thomas (Registered Psychologist), Bicarra Gazanis (Clinical Social Worker), Tash Oldaker (Provisional Psychologist, CBT-trained), and Anna Daish (Accredited Counsellor). In Brisbane: Courtney King-Hawke (Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and EMDR Therapist) and Patti Dainton (Senior Psychotherapist with 30+ years experience). Clinical oversight is provided by Dr Talia Hashworth (Clinical Lead). The team is supported by Dexter and Mali, semi-retired therapy dogs whose gentle presence helps many clients, especially children and young people, feel more grounded during sessions.

  • Your first visit

Your first appointment is a conversation with no pressure to have everything figured out. The therapist will take time to understand your child: their history, goals, nervous system and preferences, before recommending an approach. This initial session is about building safety and connection, and your therapist will explain their thinking and adjust as needed. The physical environment is calm and welcoming, and for children aged 3–12, sessions are play-based and developmentally appropriate with parent involvement built in. You'll be guided at your pace from the very beginning.
