  • Our approach

Basis Therapy is grounded in person-centred, evidence-based practice and aims to be neurodiversity-affirming, welcoming all people. The service provides tailored interventions across communication, behaviour support, and early childhood areas, including assessments using modern digital tools and evidence-based therapies for speech, language, social skills, literacy, and voice. Sessions are designed with individual needs in mind, and the practice minimises waste by keeping activities and administration electronic. The approach emphasises working with families to build their skills and confidence, whether supporting communication development or addressing challenging behaviours. Tom also has a particular passion for working with children with autism and language delays, as well as supporting young adults with disabilities transitioning to independence.

  • Working with families

Family involvement is central to Basis Therapy's approach across all services. For speech and behaviour support, families receive training and guidance to build their skills and confidence in promoting communication or managing challenging behaviours at home and in everyday life. The Hanen "It Takes Two to Talk" program is specifically designed as a parent-focused intervention, combining group sessions with individual video feedback so parents can implement strategies with their child. Family members are actively involved in the support process and collaborative work with other professionals on the child's team ensures coordination of care. The practice maintains regular communication and can be reached by phone, email, or contact form to discuss your child's needs and progress.

  • Meet the team

Basis Therapy is a solo practice run by Tom Scott Clark, a certified practising speech pathologist with a bachelor's degree in psychology (honours) from Murdoch University and a master's degree in speech pathology from Curtin University. Tom is experienced as both a speech pathologist and behaviour support practitioner with particular expertise in working with children on the autism spectrum and language delays. He also has broad experience across literacy, voice, articulation, and language disorders, as well as supporting young adults with disabilities in transition. Tom is passionate about meeting the diverse needs of all individuals and works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.

How do I connect with Basis Therapy?

You can call +61 481 187 834, email them and visit their website.

Do I need a referral to see a speech pathologist?

No referral is needed to see one privately. You only need a GP referral if you want to access Medicare rebates or are going through certain funded pathways.

Is speech therapy covered by the NDIS?

It can be, usually under Capacity Building / Improved Daily Living, if it aligns with your child's plan goals. Check your plan or ask your support coordinator.

At what age should we see a speech pathologist?

There's no "too early." If you have concerns about your child's talking or understanding at any age, an assessment can clarify whether support would help.

How long are sessions and how many will we need?

Session length varies between clinics and services, so check it with the provider when you book. The number depends on your child's goals; the pathologist will recommend a plan after the initial assessment.
