• Our approach

  Brain Wave Psychology uses a warm, collaborative approach grounded in attachment, neurodiversity-affirming, feedback-informed, and trauma-informed frameworks. Sessions are designed to provide a secure, comfortable, and open atmosphere where children and adolescents can express themselves, with therapies customised to each developmental stage. The clinicians draw on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to help young people develop adaptive coping strategies and effective thinking skills. Rather than focusing only on surface-level behaviours, the work delves deeper to uncover underlying factors influencing challenges. Sessions aim to be enjoyable and interactive while supporting emotional wellbeing and building problem-solving abilities.

• Working with families

  Family involvement is central to the work at Brain Wave Psychology. Parents and carers are asked to complete intake paperwork and provide developmental history and school reports prior to appointments. The clinician liaisons with teachers, paediatricians, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and early childcare educators to best understand the child. A dedicated feedback session follows the assessment to review written reports in detail and help you identify next steps. The approach is collaborative, viewing therapy and assessment as a joint exploration of the child's life narrative, and the clinician works with families to create practical, individualised recommendations for home and school environments.

• Meet the team

  Marie Limb is a Counselling Psychologist and the Principal clinician at Brain Wave Psychology, holding a Bachelor of Science with Honours and a Master of Psychology in Counselling. She is a Level 2 EMDR therapist and registered member of the Australian Psychological Society, Australian Association of Psychologists Inc, and the Association of Counselling Psychologists. For Autism assessments, the practice works with a team of Speech Pathologists who have extensive experience in autism assessments and complex language assessments. Marie has accumulated over 20 years of experience delivering therapeutic interventions to clients of all ages and backgrounds across government, not-for-profit, school, and private practice settings, with particular expertise in working with children and families experiencing mental health and neurodevelopmental difficulties.

• Your first visit

  Before your first appointment, you will be sent several intake forms, questionnaires, and developmental history forms to complete, along with a request to send in school and allied health reports. At the initial consultation, a clinical interview forms a critical component of the assessment, taking into consideration your child's developmental history and other important factors. The clinician will review school reports, previous assessments, and communicate with other treating professionals (with your permission). This pre-assessment consultation is a prerequisite for all assessments and helps create a thorough understanding of your child's needs. Your practitioner will also discuss their proposed treatment approach and ensure you understand the rationale before commencing services.
